Lioux is a quiet Provençal village in the Vaucluse, in the Parc naturel régional du Luberon, at the foot of the Falaise de la Madeleine. A warm, peaceful base for Apt, Roussillon and Gordes.
Lioux sits in the Vaucluse (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur), in the Parc naturel régional du Luberon and the Communauté de communes Pays d'Apt-Luberon. The village nestles at the foot of the Falaise de la Madeleine: a limestone cliff about 7 kilometres long and some 80 metres high, a geosite of the UNESCO Global Geopark of the Luberon, on the southern edge of the Monts de Vaucluse. The old village and the Romanesque church of Saint-Romain lie under the cliff; lower in the valley, hamlets such as La Combe sit among vines, lavender and farmland. A marked loop along the Falaise de la Madeleine rewards with views over ochre hills, Gordes and the Luberon. Remains of windmills and several châteaux (some private or in ruin) also mark the commune. Roussillon, Joucas, Gordes, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt and Apt are close at hand. A quiet rural base for villa guests combining cliffs, Luberon villages and Provence.
